Use a monitoring tool of your choice to check for M&D's Heartbeat.
Add a new Heartbeat Service endpoint in the Management Console -> Settings -> SERVER -> SERVICE ENDPOINTS -> CREATE ENDPOINT
And then test the URL http(s)://server:PORT/Heartbeat for M&D's Heartbeat
